Cleaning a drum filter: what should you pay attention to?
Thorough cleaning of the drum filter prevents dirt from building up and helps reduce problems when restarting the system in spring.
When a filter system is completely switched off during the winter period, it is important to clean the drum filter properly first. Remaining dirt, biofilm, limescale and organic material can build up inside the filter and cause problems later on, for example with nitrite.
By cleaning the filter in time and checking the most important components, you prevent unnecessary strain on the system and extend the service life of the filter. When cleaning, do not only focus on visible dirt, but also check the technical components that affect the operation, water flow and reliability of the drum filter.
Checkpoints when cleaning a drum filter
When cleaning a drum filter, the following points should also be checked:
- Is the bypass cap still in good condition?
- Is the drum seal still in good condition?
- Is the screen still fully intact and free from damage?
- Is the rinse gutter clean?
- Is the internal rinse pump still correctly positioned in its designated place?
- Is the cable of the rinse pump not rolled up or twisted?
- Has the rinse pump possibly drawn in biomedia that needs to be removed?
- Have deposits or dirt built up on mechanical components?
When cleaning the filter, pay close attention to all mechanical components and check whether any deposits have formed. Heavy limescale, biofilm and other dirt deposits must be removed thoroughly.
